Earlier today, we posted an exclusive report that the WWE was looking at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field as a possible home for either WrestleMania 31 in 2015 or WrestleMania 32 in 2016. The source cited that Philadelphia and the new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California (future home of the San Francisco 49ers) are currently the two leading candidates for the marquee event.
One local Philadelphia news station, 6ABC, went directly to the WWE for confirmation that The City of Brotherly Love was indeed being considered. The WWE issued the following statement:
Philadelphia is one of the many cities that has expressed an interest in hosting a future WrestleMania. An announcement regarding WrestleMania 31 will be made early next year.
While no confirmation that Philadelphia is a top contender for one of the two big events, it confirms that Philadelphia has been in contact with the WWE and is serious about hosting a WrestleMania for the first time since WrestleMania 15 in 1999.
