WWE Raw on Monday, May 7 scored a 3.03 rating, down three-tenths of a rating (9.1 percent) from last week’s 3.33 rating for the Extreme Rules PPV fall-out. It was the lowest rating in nearly three months dating back to the February 13 episode.

Raw averaged 4.31 million viewers, a 12 percent decline from last week’s average of 4.88 million viewers for the Extreme Rules fall-out. It was the fewest viewers in a month going back to the April 9 episode.

As expected with no substantial hook for the second hour, Raw declined as the show progressed. Raw opened with an average of 4.43 million first hour viewers, then declined steeply to 4.19 million second hour viewers. It was the second-fewest second hour viewers of the year, only trailing the January 9 episode against the BCS National Title game.

The following is the progression of the last four hours of Raw following Extreme Rules:

4/30 1H – 4.99 million viewers
4/30 2H – 4.77 million viewers
5/7 1H – 4.43 million viewers
5/7 2H – 4.19 million viewers

- Despite the drop-off in ratings and viewership, Raw ranked #1 on cable TV Monday night, topping the NBA Playoffs. Raw was #1 in key demos during the first hour, but slipped behind the NBA in the second hour.

- In the week-to-week demographics, Raw was down across the board in all male demographics. Raw was down one-tenth in m12-34, one-and-a-half-tenths in m18-49, and half-a-tenth in m18-34. Teen males took a hit of nearly three-tenths.

- Raw one year ago this week scored a 3.18 rating against the NBA Playoffs and averaged 4.94 million viewers. Raw this year was down 4.8 percent in the rating and 12.8 percent in viewership.

Trendrr reports that RAW’s social media score dropped from last week, even after coming off the Extreme Rules PPV. The show had a rating of 162,413, down 18% from the 198,893 from last week. The episode was likely hurt by the NBA Playoffs, which took the #1 and #3 spots on Cable TV. TNT’s NBA coverage had 738,815 for the Knicks vs Heat game and 244,763 for the Thunder vs Mavericks game, which started during the first hour of RAW. RAW ranked #4 on cable TV Monday night and was down 5.8 percent compared to the yearly average of 172,395. It did not follow the yearly pattern for big jumps in social media activity after a PPV compared to the PPV lead-in show. Here are the numbers:

1/30 (night after Royal Rumble) – 187,713 score (up 94.2%)

2/20 (night after Elimination Chamber) – 250,429 score (up 78.7%)

4/2 (night after Wrestlemania 28) – 343,333 (up 116.8%)

4/30 (night after Extreme Rules) – 162,413 (down 18.3%)

5/13 WWE Smackdown Gets Lowest Series Rating of the Year for Second Straight Week

WWE Smackdown on Friday, May 13 dipped a little lower to a 1.69 rating, down from the previous week’s year-low 1.72 rating.

Outside of the holiday season at the end of 2010, it was Smackdown’s lowest rating on Syfy since October on Halloween weekend.

Smackdown averaged 2.6 million viewers, which was dwarfed by the NBA Playoffs on ESPN averaging 4.7 million viewers.

On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #9 overall, #13 in males 18-34, and #5 in males 18-49. The one positive note on a bad week for Smackdown was ranking #2 in m18-49 during the 8:00 p.m. EST timeslot.

The bad news continues with Smackdown scoring its lowest non-holiday rating among males 18-49 & males 18-34 since moving to Syfy.

The following are some comparisons of the May 12 episode’s decline vs. two weeks ago on April 29, which scored an overall rating at the 2011 average.

– Overall rating: 12.5% decline
– Males 18-34: 49.5% decline
– Males 18-49: 26.% decline

Also worth noting is this perhaps being the closest TNA Impact has ever been to Smackdown in average viewership on Syfy. On May 12, Impact averaged 1.8 million viewers. On May 13, Smackdown averaged 2.4 million viewers. TNA hasn’t shown the capability to sustain short-term ratings pops, but WWE certainly doesn’t want their #2 show to be lapped by Impact. Smackdown is really hurting right now, even if it’s mainly due to the NBA Playoffs.

But, then comes the summer season when fewer people are in front of TV sets on Friday nights. Giving away a World Title match two weeks ago without building any anticipation was a key example of WWE blowing whatever equity they have with Smackdown before they could build momentum post-Draft.
