Booker T Talks the Royal Rumble, His Status For the Event, & More

0

Booker T recently did an interview for the Miami Herald. In the interview he talks about the upcoming Royal Rumble, his status for the event, his journey into commentary, and more. Here are a few highlights from the interview.

On returning to the WWE and being a part of the commentary team:
“I’ve worked so hard to get to this position in my career. I never in a million years thought it would be so great. Being able to be out there and watch the young guys, the guys of the future, the guys who are going to have to carry WrestleMania’s for the next 15 years, that’s really awesome.” … “I knew I wanted to wrap up my in-ring career. I wanted to get away from that. There comes a time when you got to pass the torch, and when I came back, it’s been great. I never thought it would be as good as it’s been this last year. It’s been awesome.”

When asked who he would throw over the top rope:
“I wish I could throw Michael Cole over. He falls on his head, forgets who he is, forget he’s a broadcater and go work somewhere else, or stay at home.” … “Michael Cole can be a headache sometimes, but he really has brought me along,” Booker T said. “Vince McMahon has helped me so many times. Josh Matthews. These guys have helped me hone my craft. It’s a learning process, just like being in the middle of that ring. You have to goout there and re-tool all over again.”

Corrections from last night’s Smackdown Spoilers

WWE wrestling 8-29-05 charleston sc

* The opening segment with Mark Henry and Zack Ryder didn’t have Ryder announce Randy Orton vs. Henry for tonight and ended up being Henry vs. Ezekiel Jackson. Ryder said Henry and Orton both had matches tonight but couldn’t touch each other under a rule from Teddy Long.

* The Sin Cara vs. Tyson Kidd match was better than usual. Josh Matthews interviewed Cara after the match and he talked in both Spanish and English. Matthews questioned if Cara speaks English. Cara said this is the real him and he’s been holding back out of respect but won’t hold back anymore. Daniel Bryan did come out and challenge Cara to a match for next week. Cara hit him with a low kick and used the LaBell Lock on him.

* There was another backstage segment with Aksana flirting with Teddy Long.

* After Kelly Kelly beat Natalya, Beth Phoenix tried to attack her but Kelly escaped.

* After Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne beat The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal, Khali walked out on Mahal because of more arguing after Mahal slapped Khali. Mahal got pissed and went off on the mic, which brought out Triple H. Mahal was talking to Triple H in Punjab and got Pedigree’d. Triple H picked him up for another Pedigree as the crowd went crazy. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t taped for TV.

* I don’t think Henry actually attacked Orton with the steel chair after the main event. Henry came down and reversed an RKO into a World’s Strongest Slam and then took a seat in a chair that was set up above Orton’s neck.

*Mark Henry comes out and recaps his recent path of destruction. Zack Ryder comes out and tells Henry that he and World champion Randy Orton will be in action tonight but not against each other and they cannot interfere in each other’s matches. Henry asks Ryder who he believes will win their World title bout at Night of Champions. Ryder says that he doesn’t want to answer that because Henry will attack him if he says Orton. Henry lays out Ryder out.

*Mark Henry defeated Ezekiel Jackson.

*Backstage segment with Aksana flirting with Teddy Long. Long says he needs to go checkon Ryder.

*Sin Cara defeated Tyson Kidd. Josh Matthews interviews Cara and says that he’s not sure that Cara speaks English but we are seeing a more aggressive side of him in recent weeks. Cara says that this is the real him and he was holding back out of respect for the WWE talent but now he’s not holding back anymore. Daniel Bryan comes out and challenges Cara to a rematch next week, only to be attacked by Cara. Cara locks Bryan in a submission and refuses to release it.

*World champ Randy Orton vs. Intercontinental champ Cody Rhodes is tonight’s main event. Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett is also set.

*Matt Striker interviews Randy Orton backstage, discussing the Rhodes bout.

*Divas champ Kelly Kelly defeated Natalya.

*WWE Tag Team champions Air Boom defeated The Great Khali & Jinder Mahal. Mahal got mad at Khali during the match and slapped him so Khali turned on Mahal and allowed him to get pinned. After the match, Mahal continued to rant in his native tongue, leading to HHH coming out and nailing him with a Pedigree.

*WWE World champion Randy Orton defeated Cody Rhodes. Mark Henry attacked Orton after the match and leaves him laying to close out the broadcast.

Detailed Recap of Edge’s Retirement Speech After Smackdown Tapings Went Off the Air Last Night

0

After Smackdown, went off the air, we were left with Edge and Christian in the ring.

Christian talks about the two of them together over the years. They say its time for a everyone with flash photography to get a 5 second pose for the final time ever. They do one towards the camera and then opposite camera and Edge is joking around doing karate moves.

Every single person backstage comes out on the stage. All the Superstars, Refs, etc. And they are all clapping. Edge gets emotional and looks back at them and walks around the ring. Edge goes to talk but can’t. Big Show, Rey Mysterio, and Chavo Guerrero come down to the ring and hug him and talk. Triple H’s music starts to play and HHH comes down to the ring. HHH gives Edge a big hug and they talk to each other. Edge is crying. I really hope WWE releases this on DVD or somewhere else as they have two cameramen in the ring recording plus the two cameras in the crowd.

Everyone is clapping and chanting “Edge” The Superstars in the ring leave back to the stage. Edge goes to follow but HHH tells him to stay in the ring. The tron shows Edge’s mom crying in the front row. Everyone on the stage leaves. Edge says he is really surprised and he did not know that was going to happen.

Edge says he has a lot of people he wants to thank. Edge thanks all the superstars backstage, the guys who set up and tear down the ring. Edge thanks the ring bell guy and everyone else ringside. He thanks the people who build the Titantron, he thanks the people who make the “Rated R Superstar” graphic on the tron. He thanks everyone in catering; he thanks the writers Brian Gerwertz and Michael Hayes. Edge says his career would not be where it is today if not for Hayes.

Edge says he wants to thank Vince not Mr. McMahon. He said Vince was the one person who believed in him and Edge knows he did not let him down. Edge thanks Christian as for all the years they were together because of the WWE. He says they reached their dream at Wrestlemania 16 when they stood on the ladders holding the tag titles in the air together.
Edge thanks Lita for all the fun they had together, Edge says for everyone to get their minds out of the gutter. He laughs and says, “OK we did it.”

Edge says he wants to thank Vickie Guerrero. Crowd boos. Edge laughs and says see she is doing great. Edge says Vickie is such a nice person and helped him in his career.

Edge says he does not want to ruin this person’s reputation but wants to thank Kane. Edge says Kane was a very close friend to him and was always there for him.

A fan yells to hug his Mom. Edge says he will hug his mom in a second. Edge talks to Booker and thanks him for everything.

Edge says he can’t do any more Edgaroonis as the last one he did gave him mat burn on his face. Booker T laughs.

Fans chants “Hall of Fame”. Edge says he hopes to be there someday.

Edge thanks all of his fans for all they have done. Edge says that we won’t see him for a long long time as he is going to take a lot of time to do things. He talks about mountains with his dogs and surfing in Nicaragua.

Edge puts the microphone down and goes outside the ring. Edge goes all around the ring shaking hands and signing autographs for people.

Either Michael Cole or Josh Matthews, when on the stage leaving bow down to Edge. Edge goes up to a guy who looks like him (Brother or Cousin?) and the hugs then and his Mom. Edge walks up the ramp and poses and walks backstage.

Chimel thanks everyone for being here tonight, and tells us to watch Smackdown Friday.

What Match Will Close WrestleMania? Who Will Announce The Show?

Jerry Lawler WWE Monday Night Raw 800th Tampa

Image via Wikipedia

The plan right now is for Triple H vs. The Undertaker to close WrestleMania 27. John Cena vs. The Miz for the WWE Title is scheduled to go third from the top, with a match in between Cena-Miz and Taker-HHH.

WWE officials are also heavily considering having Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler only wrestle and not announce, which would have Booker T and Josh Matthews call the show.

There were mixed messages being sent at last night’s Raw regarding JR’s status for Wrestlemania. A source suggested that Ross would be doing the commentary at Wrestlemania, while another source insisted that a decision had not been made yet, according to Dave Meltzer.

Character from Howard Stern Show Rants on Not Being a WWE Guest Host

0
WWE RAW
Image via Wikipedia

You may remember in late 2010 where Jeff the Drunk said on the Howard Stern show that he would be guest hosting WWE RAW on the December 27th show from Albany, New York and would be doing a segment with Steve Austin. The claim was also reported on Howard’s news but people in WWE denied it.

The day after RAW in Albany, Jeff appeared on Stern and said he showed up at RAW but wasn’t let in the building. He claimed the whole deal was set up by Ron Simmons, who is no longer with WWE. Jeff said he showed up and called Simmons, who likely wasn’t even at the show, and that Simmons said he would get him inside but never did.

The Drunk claimed that after calling Simmons again and waiting at the ticket office for three hours, he left. He also claimed he shaved his head before going to RAW because WWE’s Josh Matthews told him WWE wanted him bald for the guest host gig. Jeff then went on to rant about Simmons and Matthews, obviously revealing that he was working his own angle from the start.

Big News On the Many Changes Possible for WWE Announcers

0

WWE officials have discussed modifying the announce team for pay-per-view events, which could begin as soon as TLC.

Internally, Todd Grisham is not getting high marks for his work, which is why Michael Cole was moved to SmackDown. Meanwhile, both Cole and Jerry Lawler reportedly dislike working with Matt Striker. Cole took off his headset during the Survivor Series broadcast to yell at Striker for talking too much.

Punk may end up with the spot for pay-per-view events, but the team would therefore solely consist of Raw announcers and the company doesn’t want SmackDown to come off as a secondary brand.

It’s said to be no secret that Jim Ross wants to return to the announce booth. His appearance on Raw two weeks ago resulted in overwhelming sentiment that he should return, but his fate lies in the hands of Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn, who prefer youth—though Jerry Lawler is three years older than Ross.

Furthermore, Lawler and Cole have pushed for Ross to replace Matt Striker as the third man for pay-per-view broadcasts, whom they dislike. McMahon, however, feels the pay-per-view broadcast team should be limited to those who work television.

Despite Michael Cole’s interference during Lawler’s title match on RAW this past Monday, the commentary team is expected to remain the same next week.

All of this could change, however, if Jim Ross does indeed return as speculated.
