Scotty Riggs, who held the WCW World Tag Team Championship with Buff Bagwell, stated Sunday evening on Twitter that he spoke with his former tag team partner after he was involved in a serious car accident last Monday in Georgia. Riggs says while Bagwell is in “rough” shape, he was discharged from intensive care after undergoing successful surgery on Saturday.
Bagwell was driving in Georgia on Monday when he lost control of his Jeep, which flipped on the road and left him with several broken bones in his neck and face, including a snapped jaw. The former WCW Superstar called his wife at 1:35 p.m. to tell her that he was about to suffer a seizure while driving. He was taken to nearby WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he remained under doctors’ watch in an intensive care unit throughout the week.
On Friday, Bagwell’s wife Judy stated to TMZ.com that he had been taken off the breathing tube, was able to eat solid foods and talk. Fellow WCW alumni Sting, Rick Steiner, Scott Steiner, Diamond Dallas Page and Riggs, among others, have also kept in contact with Bagwell since the accident.
“It’s really helped that he’s been contacted by friends … he’s really feeling the love,” says Bagwell’s wife.

I am still completely floored and in utter shock over the news that the “Macho Man” Randy Savage passed away today at the age of 58. As reported here on WrestleChat, Randy suffered a heart attack behind the wheel of his Jeep, lost control and slammed into a tree. His beautiful wife Lynn was also in the car but luckily only suffered minor injuries. Unfortunately the biggest injury of all is to her heart after the loss of her husband Randy.
To say that Randy Savage was a huge piece of my childhood is a complete understatement. Randy was and in my mind still is the pinnacle of Professional Wrestling. When I was a child Randy along with Hulk Hogan and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat were the 3 men I idolized most when I would flick on my television and enter a world of entertainment and fantasy, you know the world where we all wish we could be the tag partner of Macho Man or the one facing him for his Championship Belt? We all thought and dreamt that.
From the days of walking around my elementary school doing Macho Man impressions to those hot summer days in Queens, NY when I would sit on my stoop and wait for the Mr Softee truck to purchase a WWF Ice Cream Bar, and the complete joy I remember to this day feeling when I would tear into that box to reveal a Macho Man Ice Cream Bar and Trading Card. Damn, I miss those days.
Now, with the death of Randall Poffo a.k.a The Macho Man, I sit back and reflect on how much wrestling has changed and how the sport went from iconic legends we all adored to the presence of wrestlers that cannot figure out a way to stand out into the spotlight the way this man did. Sure you have your John Cena’s, The Rock’s and Chris Jericho’s who all made a niche for themselves in the Professional Wrestling world but how would it have been if there was no Macho Man Randy Savage? If no one ever saw how amazing his promos were or how outrageous he was. Would there have been a Rock? Would Chris Jericho be who he is today? Even those two idolized Savage the way we all did.
I can sit here and ramble on about how iconic this man was or how all of us at one point in time put our finger in the air and let out an “Ohhhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”, but I won’t. But what I will do is ask you all to jump on YouTube and refresh your minds on what an amazing talent he was in the ring, on the mic and in front of the camera’s.
This was an extremely huge loss for the professional wrestling world, it’s fans and our childhoods.
Rest in Paradise Randy, cause eventually we will all be up there buying tickets to watch you once again.
