Dana White on Brock Lesnar’s Possible UFC Return: “He’s Done…He’s Never Coming Back”

0

via MMATorch:

Brock Lesnar’s loss to Alistair Overeem last year at UFC 141 was indeed the final MMA bout of his career. It might not have been, as the former UFC Heavyweight Champion had considered coming back to the sport this year, but UFC President Dana White said on Tuesday that Lesnar has closed the door on that part of his life.

“He’s done,” White said in an interview with the Dave and Mahoney show on X107.5 in Las Vegas on Tuesday. ”He’s done. He called me a couple days ago, he’s never coming back. He just said his body… he can wrestle, but he can’t fight. But he was contemplating coming back.”

Lesnar is currently signed to the WWE through next year’s Wrestlemania event, though he could re-sign for longer after deciding against another UFC run.

BREAKING NEWS: Brock Lesnar negotiating with WWE to appear at WrestleMania 28

0

UPDATE: We have posted an UPDATE to this story HERE on the ongoing negotiations between Brock Lesnar and the WWE in regards to a WrestleMania 28 appearance and possible more!

Both F4WOnline.com and PWInsider.com are reporting that Brock Lesnar is in negotiations with WWE to make a surprise appearance at Sunday’s WrestleMania XXVIII pay-per-view event at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida. Negotiations are ongoing, but a source within the company says that there is a 50-50 chance that Lesnar will appear on the show.

The source went on to state that WWE wants Lesnar to appear and is hoping that a deal can be finalized within the next 24 hours.

Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White confirmed to F4WOnline.com that Lesnar is legally able to appear at WrestleMania on Sunday since he is no longer under contract to the organization. White was not aware if Lesnar was appearing on the show.

Lesnar left WWE in March 2004 to pursue a career in the National League Football, which was short-lived. Following a brief fling in New Japan Wrestling, he stepped away from the professional wrestling industry entirely in 2006 to pursue a career in mixed martial arts. He captured the UFC Heavyweight Championship from Randy Couture on November 15, 2008, then avenged his loss to Mir at UFC 100 to become the Undisputed Champion. He lost the strap two years later to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121. Lesnar announced his intentions to retire from mixed martial arts following a subsequent loss to Alistair Overeem in December, which prompted speculation of a return to WWE.

A writer for the Associated Press stated in his article on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson that if WWE wants to squeeze another potential blockbuster buy rate out of The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment, the last man standing to get the headline match would be Lesnar.

“I’m not saying a thing,” said a laughing, grinning Johnson with his eyebrow raised after being asked about the possible encounter. “I didn’t say anything.”

UFC Owner Confirms Junior Dos Santos vs Alistar Overeem, Frank Mir vs Cain Velasquez Set For UFC 146

0

According to a post on the Twitter account of UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta, the collasal matchup between UFC Heavyweight Champ Junior dos Santos and Number One Centender Alistair Overeem will take place in a little over 3 months.

User @ModernWarfare56 tweeted the question to Fertitta: “JDS VS Overeem on big summer card?”

Lorenzo replied back rather quickly, stating: “memorial day weekend vegas”

This would imply that this fight will take place at UFC 146 scheduled for May 26th from Las Vegas.  And it seems that this won’t be the only massive Heavyweight fight on the card.  It looks like Cain Velasquez will look to bounce back from his UFC on Fox loss to face Frank Mir.

Fertitta was simply asked, “what’s next for Frank Mir” and he responded with “Cain”.  This fight has been rumored to take place at UFC 146 for weeks now ever since Dana White said that those two could be up next for each other.  With Mir’s other rumored opponent, Fabricio Werdum, serving a 6-month medical suspension, the matchup with Cain seems to make perfect sense.  While not confirmed, it would seem that this would be the perfect fight to name the new number one contender.

MMA Fighter “King Mo” Lawal Says Brock Lesnar “Saved the UFC” During His Time There

0

Credit – F4WOnline

You can find the audio at www.sportstownchicago.com/fightclub.

Here are the quotes:

Some people have said that Lesnar looked defeated and couldn’t wait to get  done with the fight. Lawal saw some tendencies to that and feels that Lesnar got  too much, too fast.
“I think he was nervous,” Lawal said.  “Then he tried to hype the crowd up  by singing/rapping to a song and then when it was over he went into the cage and  that’s when looked defeated when he stepped into the cage. I think Brock got  pushed too fast, too soon to his career and probably because he makes a lot of  money. If they woulda built him on right, he could have been a great heavyweight  fighter. I think he helped save the UFC and make them more marketable because he  has such a big following.”
Lawal definitely feels that was the case and has strong feelings on why  people feel like Lesnar didn’t like to get hit.
“I think so,” Lawal said. “But at the same time, I think he knew that he  was getting paid a lot and they (UFC) had to rush him. Personally, I heard he  was running his own show. I think maybe in training he got hit and didn’t like  it and they (training staff) modified things, so he wouldn’t have to get hit. He  never got adjusted to getting hit. No one likes to getting hit, but after awhile  you tolerate it. You don’t think nothing of it.”

Report: Brock Lesnar Planned His UFC Retirement For Weeks & Could Be in WWE “Fairly Soon”

0

Brock Lesnar This picture is not copyrighted. ...

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, there were rumors of Brock Lesnar’s retirement from the UFC for weeks before his loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 on Friday night. Meltzer stated on his radio show that he had heard weeks ago that the former UFC heavyweight champion may be WWE bound.

“I heard for the past three or four weeks that if Brock were to lose don’t be surprised to see him in WWE fairly soon,” said Meltzer (props to reader Pete Gerber for passing along the transcription).

Meltzer noted that Lesnar’s retirement speech “was clearly practiced” and that he knew he would retire ahead of time.

“I don’t know if he had told anyone but there were rumors going around, not so much that he was going to quit, but there was an offer out for him and if he lost in a bad way… that he wouldn’t be able to be a main event fighter again, and without being a main event fighter, he wouldn’t make millions for a fight.

“Brock is not a guy who is going to fight for $500,000 or $700,000. He’s just not going to do that, especially when he can make far more than that doing pro wrestling.”

Meltzer spoke with the Yahoo! Sports team after Lesnar’s loss, and said that Vince McMahon would want him back.

“He’s [Vince McMahon] going to want him back,” Meltzer stated. “They tried to get him for WrestleMania for last year and Dana wouldn’t agree to release him… Dana’s got him for contract for several more fights for a lengthy period of time.”

Even if Vince McMahon and UFC President Dana White were to come to an agreement to bring Lesnar back into WWE, it would likely only be for a few shows.

“Brock will never go full time to pro wrestling,” Meltzer said. “Brock will do a WrestleMania for a huge payoff, maybe he’ll do two or three more pro wrestling matches and it will wear off.”

More on Brock Lesnar’s UFC status & injury update

0

UFC President Dana White said at the UFC 141 post-fight press conference in Las Vegas that he had no idea Brock Lesnar was going to retire if he lost. Dana also said that Brock thought one of his ribs was broken after the hard body kick from Alistair Overeem.

A reporter asked Dana if Lesnar was free to go to “the other company,” referencing Lesnar returning to WWE. Dana said that Lesnar is retiring from UFC under contract and will remain under contract unless he and Lesnar can come to terms. Dana said he doesn’t think Lesnar should retire but won’t argue with a man who wants to retire.

Another reporter asked White if Lesnar can wrestle again and Dana said, “we will have to figure that out.”

Overeem, who defeated Lesnar in the first round of their UFC 141 main event, also said he doesn’t think Lesnar should retire. Lesnar had told his wife, former WWE star Sable, that he would retire now if he lost at UFC 141 and if he won at UFC 141, he would retire after his next fight.

Brock did not attend the post-fight press conference last night as he was receiving medical attention.
