ROH announces next two World Title contenders

0

ROH World Champion Roderick Strong has proven himself as champion, retaining the title through four very difficult title bouts against four very different opponents. By hook or crook, Strong has maintained his position at the top of the ladder, and without a great deal of assistance from Truth Martini. The champion now heads into his 5th title defense, this one against the most unpredictable man on the ROH roster: “The Notorious 187” Homicide will challenge Roderick for the ROH World Title at the “9th Anniversary Show” live on iPPV (http://www.gofightlive.tv/Events/Fight/Wrestling/ROH__The_9th_Anniversary_Show/920). “The Notorious 187” has fought a long road back to the belt, going unpinned and undefeated in singles bouts since he returned at “Glory by Honor IX” and ruined Strong’s victory celebration. Homicide has put down Kevin Steen, The Necro Butcher, both Jay & Mark Briscoe, Claudio Castagnoli, and more en route to this title bout and could very well walk out of Chicago Ridge with the belt in his possession for the 2nd time. Either he, or Roderick Strong, will head to New York City for “Manhattan Mayhem IV” for the next defense of the ROH World Title. The question is who will be the man to step up to the plate in the Big Apple?

Christopher Daniels, Davey Richards, Jay Briscoe, and El Generico: those are the four men who have already battled ROH World Champion Roderick Strong in an attempt to wrest the title from his hands. All four men were unsuccessful in their initial quest, but all four men certainly proved themselves deserving of another shot at history. Daniels holds several non-title victories over the champion, most recently at “Champions vs. All-Stars” in Virginia in a bout the champ demanded; Davey Richards fought through a concussion and ruptured ear drum before succumbing to unconsciousness in their battle at “Final Battle 2010”; Jay Briscoe fought with the heart of a champion but was cut open during his title bout and the sheer amount of blood he spilt certainly played a factor in his ability to fight; as for El Generico, well Roderick flat out cheated to beat “The Generic Luchador”, using the belt as a weapon after being unable to keep Generico down.

There is also the other half of The American Wolves, Eddie Edwards, who secured himself a future World title opportunity by battling through a serious shoulder injury to win “Survival of the Fittest 2010” last October. Edwards is coming off a tour of Pro Wrestling NOAH in which he unsuccessfully challenged GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion Kotaro Suzuki for the title as well as faced the likes of Marufuji, Morishima, and Go Shiozaki among others. So which of these men will be one to get his shot in Manhattan??

It will be the former ROH World Tag Team & World TV Champion Eddie Edwards! March 19th, “Manhattan Mayhem IV” with a special start time of 4PM; Eddie Edwards will take on the winner of Strong/Homicide for the ROH World Title! Get your tickets now: http://www.rohstore.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=208. Edwards has battled proven himself willing to fight through anything in his hunt of success, whomever he faces on 3/19 is going to be in for the fight of their life!

But that’s not all. ROH officials have also determined who will challenge for the ROH World Title on April 1st when we debut in Atlanta, GA with the last man who pinned the current ROH World Champion Roderick Strong, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels! Daniels has been in pursuit of the ROH World Title for quite a long time. Will 4/1 finally mark the “Fallen Angel’s” ascension to the top of ROH? Tickets are sold out here at ROHWrestling.com, but you can still get select seats through Ticketmaster so hurry while they still remain!

Who will Eddie Edwards face in Manhattan? Who will Christopher Daniels face in Atlanta? These are questions still to be answered as ROH continues its tour across the country. Watch the “9th Anniversary Show” live on iPPV to see Strong defends against Homicide and get the answer to the first question, then be there in NYC to get your answer to the second! The ROH World Title picture is certainly heating up!

Women’s match signed for ROH iPPV

0

Prior to “Final Battle 2010”, both Sara Del Rey and Daizee Haze demanded ROH officials present them with greater competition and when, in their opinion, officials failed, they brought their own competition to NYC in the forms of Amazing Kong and Serena Deeb. Del Rey teamed with Deeb to defeat Haze & Kong that December night, and Haze again tasted defeated during a broadcast of “ROH on HDNet” when MsChif beat her in the center of the ring.

After that bout The Haze, in a true sign of sportsmanship, accepted her defeat graciously and attempted to shake the hand of the former SHIMMER Champion. MsChif refused, turned her back on Daizee, and began to walk away to the locker room. Haze attempted to find out what MsChif’s problem was, and was greeted with poison green mist spat into her face! Daizee has been out of ROH competition since that night while MsChif has gone on to state that she isn’t here for respect or to prove she is the best, she is simply here to dominate women’s wrestling and to prove to both Daizee and Sara Del Rey that they are no competition for her.

Well on February 26th; live on iPPV at the “9th Anniversary Show” MsChif will have the opportunity to back up her words when she goes one-on-one with the self-proclaimed “Queen of Wrestling” Sara Del Rey! Usually very confident, if not boastful, Del Rey surprisingly expressed some trepidation when informed of the match.

“MsChif and I have been in the ring plenty of times.” Stated Del Rey, “But there’s something different about her, something dangerous I haven’t seen before. There’s not love lost between myself and Daizee but even I, the Queen of Wrestling, think that MsChif pushed it a little too far. MsChif has always been unpredictable, but this…this ruthlessness is something new to me.”

SOTF Rematch signed for Dayton

0

On November 12, 2010 Ring of Honor held the “Survival of the Fittest 2011” tournament in Dearborn, MI. Featuring a dozen of ROH’s best, it would all come down to two men battling it out for a future shot at the ROH World Title. Those two men ended up being then-ROH World TV Champion Eddie Edwards and “The Pretty Boy Pitbull” Kenny King.

Edwards had suffered a serious shoulder injury earlier in the night during his Qualifying bout victory against Chris Hero, and at one point during the finals was actually taken to the back due to his injury. Edwards, ignoring the in-house doctor and ROH officials, returned to ringside to help King eliminate Claudio Castagnoli, leaving King and Edwards as the last two men standing.

Edwards fought through the pain, as he has done several times in the past, and managed to pull out a victory over King to win the 2011 SOTF and earn a future shot at the World Title. Suffice it to say, that loss hasn’t sat well with Kenny King all these months:

“I’ll give it to Eddie, he’s a tough dude.” stated King, “If you could see me now, you’d know I’m clapping for him. But you ain’t special Wolfie, not a bit. You fought through injury, so have I…hell I’m fighting with one every day of my life, but you don’t hear me bragging about it or having ROH officials talk about how tough a dude I am. That’s okay; I don’t need the hype puppy dog. I’m my own hype machine, and when I’m busy kicking your ass, I got my boy Rhett Titus doing it just like I would do for him. I will stomp you into the ground Eddie, neuter you like a backyard mutt, and roll on to Chicago where me and Rhett will take those tag titles. Then it’s Vegas time, and we hit the strip…all night long!”

Eddie Edwards has not competed in ROH since “Final Battle 2010”, where he beat Sonjay Dutt, but has spent the first part of the year fine tuning his skills in Pro Wrestling NOAH and nearly capturing the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title from Kotaro Suzuki at the end of January. This will mark his first bout in 2011 for ROH and it is one he is looking at with deadly focus.

“I beat you in Survival of the Fittest, Kenny.” offered Edwards, “I made you tap out in the center of the ring, and that was with only one arm. One arm Kenny, one arm. What do you think will happen when I’m at one hundred percent? What do you think will happen when you face this wolf when he is whole? I’ll paint the picture for you just in case you can’t figure it out yourself. You will break again, you will tap out again, and then I will go on to Chicago to become TV champion again. There is nothing you can do to me that will make me quit Kenny, there is nothing you can do to me that will stop this hunt. I have suffered through injury after injury and it hasn’t killed me yet. It only makes me stronger. You will find that out in Dayton, and then Christopher Daniels, you will find it out when I retake my belt. The hunt is on.”

The House of Truth has a new muscle in the group

0

As most know, Michael Elgin is the newest member of the House of Truth, officially becoming a part of group after ROH’s last tour of Canada in November. Still, he had to pass certain…tests…to be fully accepted, and during a recent broadcast of “ROH on HDNet” he did exactly that while teaming with the ROH World Champion, and fellow devotee of the Book of Truth, Roderick Strong. Now the powerhouse of the House has been set on a path of destruction, a mission if you will, to eliminate the contenders to Strong’s World Title. That list compromises names such as Jay Briscoe, Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, El Generico, and Christopher Daniels. But following a loss to Daniels in an unscheduled bout at “Champions vs. All-Stars”, a bout Roderick demanded mind you, the World Champion has demanded that Truth Martini use his managerial skills to attain Elgin matches with these top ROH World Title contenders, and that Elgin’s warpath specifically start with Daniels.

“Michael Elgin is a man for whom the Book of Truth has changed his life.” stated Truth Martini, “He is a follower, to the letter of the Book, and the guidance of the Book will lead him to victory over The Fallen Angel and his faux gospel. Michal Elgin will lay to waste every man who dares to step into the championship territory that is owned by my man Roderick Strong. Just remember, when it comes to Michael Elgin, the saying about every man being created equal…was wrong.”

February 25th, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton, OH will mark the site of the first stop on Elgin’s hit list. There he will step into the ring with “The Fallen Angel” and attempt to put down the first of many potential challengers to the ROH World Title. In addition, ROH officials have declared that Daniels’ TV Title will NOT be on the line due to the fact that Elgin has not yet earned a shot at a ROH championship.

For better or worse, the hit list does not end in Dayton…

The following evening, in Chicago Ridge, IL at the “9th Anniversary Show” iPPV event, Truth Martini & Roderick Strong have sent Elgin after a 2nd potential challenger for the belt, the most recent man to challenge Strong for the title, “The Generic Luchador” El Generico! Only a few weeks ago at “SoCal Showdown II”, Strong did everything he could to try to put down Generico but the former World Tag Champion would NOT stay down. Strong resorted to striking Generico with the World Title belt behind the referee’s back before hitting the Sick Kick and Gibson Driver for the win. Despite his bravado after the fact, Strong knows that Generico is a threat and the champ is scared. In fact, when faced with several of his potential challengers after the match, the champ elected to run from the ring for fear of facing the wrath of Jay Briscoe, Christopher Daniels, and Davey Richards.

Is this HoT hit list another sign of fear on the part of Truth Martini and Roderick Strong? Has the “Messiah of the Backbreaker” realized he may have bitten off more than he can chew and pissed off one too many people? Or is this simply an intelligent play from the champion, picking off your challengers before they can even step foot in the ring once again?
