Jim Miller vs. Nate Diaz Promises Fireworks As First “UFC on Fox 3″ Fight Announcement

0

Credit – MMAJunkie

As expected, the UFC will hold its third FOX-televised event on May 5, and the first fight announced for the card looks like a guaranteed barnburner.

UFC president Dana White today announced that Nate Diaz (15-7 MMA, 9-5 UFC) vs. Jim Miller (21-3 MMA, 12-2 UFC) will take place on that date at UFC on FOX 3.

The event takes place at IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

Diaz enters the bout after back-to-back career bests, flashing moments of absolute domination in wins over Donald Cerrone and Takanori Gomi. The 26-year-old is just 4-2 in his past six fights, but with five “Fight of the Night” bonuses under his belt, he’s a must-watch competitor and may very well work his way into title contention with a win.

Meanwhile, Miller looks to build on the strength of his impressive submission win over Melvin Guillard at this past weekend’s UFC on FX 1 event. Miller was decisioned by Ben Henderson in a bid for a shot at the lightweight title, but he’s still 9-1 in his past 10 fights and extremely relevant in the 155-pound title picture.

Bobby Lashley Reveals That He’s in Negotiations to Fight Fedor Emelianenko; Talks Batista Fight Too

0

Credit – Fighters Only

WWE wrestler Bobby Lashley at a news conferenc...

According to Lashley, Fedor’s managers are currently looking for the Russian MMA veteran’s next opponent, and his name is on the list of potential matchups. “I’m going to throw everything at him that I can. Of course, my wrestling’s there, I don’t give a damn what he’s doing. I’d put my wrestling up there with almost anyone right now.  The guy’s got a tremendous amount of fights under his belt… I’d like to fight him.”
“I think that my wrestling would trump some of the things that he has. I know he’s a great fighter, but if I fought him then of course I’m going to try and wrestle him down… If it was Dave [Bautista], I’m standing and banging with him. I’ve been doing a lot of boxing.”

A potential bout between Lashley and fellow former WWE star Dave Bautista, aka Batista, is something that has been on the minds of fans and reporters for quite some time now. Though it remains to be seen if that fight will ever happen, the ATT heavyweight is still interested in the idea.

“I know a lot of people are looking at that fight and saying I shouldn’t take it, but that’s the entertainment aspect of [MMA]. If the wrestling fans want that then it’s an opportunity for me to have a fight, which will probably warrant a good amount of money… I’ll take that fight, no problem.”

UFC Announces Mandatory Performance Enhancing Drug Testing For All Athletes Effective Immediately

0

ZUFFA Inc, the parent company of Ultimate Fighting Championship sent out the following today:

Deutsch: Logo von Ultimate Fighting Championsh...

Las Vegas, Nevada – Continuing a commitment to the health and safety of its athletes, the Ultimate Fighting Championship®announced today that all potential UFC® and STRIKEFORCE®signees will be subject to a mandatory pre-contract screening for performance-enhancing drugs. Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, all incoming athletes will be tested prior to finalizing a contract with the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization. UFC and STRIKEFORCE already work closely with the most prestigious regulators and athletic commissions to ensure the healthy and safety of athletes prior to competition. This includes contestants on The Ultimate Fighter®, all of whom are pre-screened for performance-enhancing drugs prior to participating on the longest-running sports reality show on television. All current UFC and STRIKEFORCE athletes will continue to be screened for performance-enhancing drugs, both prior to competition and at random, in accordance with athletic commission rules and regulations.

“We’re committed to the health and safety of our athletes and we take it very seriously,” UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said. “We already work closely with athletic commissions to protect our athletes and now we’re taking it one step further. We’re going to test any potential UFC or STRIKEFORCE fighter before finalizing their contract. This shows that we don’t want performance-enhancing drugs in our sport.”

This pre-contract screening policy further cements the organization’s dedication to the well-being of its athletes. In May, the organization announced that nearly 350 UFC and STRIKEFORCE independent contractor athletes would be eligible for customized accident insurance coverage, an unprecedented policy that covers accidental injuries suffered by athletes while training, as well as non-training incidents such as automobile accidents.

“The health and safety of our athletes is our top priority,” UFC President Dana White said.“We’ve seen the issues performance-enhancing drugs have caused in other sports and we’re going to do everything we can to keep them out of the UFC and STRIKEFORCE. Our athletes are already held to the highest testing standards in all sports by athletic commissions. Our new testing policy for performance-enhancing drugs only further shows how important it is to us to have our athletes competing on a level playing field.”

Chael Sonnen to Face Michael Bisping At “UFC on Fox 2″ Due to Mark Munoz Injury

0

Dana White just posted the following via Twitter:

“Munoz is injured and out of the FOX fight! Now it’s Chael Sonnen vs Mike Bisping jan 28th and the winner will fight Anderson for the title.”

Sonnen and Bisping can’t stand each other in real-life so the buildup should be great. This is also what many people wanted in the first place. The fight will take place next weekend on FOX and is headlined by Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis with the winner going on to face Jon Jones.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson Released Following UFC 142 Weight-Cut Mishap & Loss to Vitor Belfort

0

Credit – MMAJunkie.com

English: Dana White, president of the UFC.

Anthony Johnson’s third weighcutting mistake will be his last in the UFC, at least for now.

Following Saturday night’s UFC 142 event at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, UFC president Dana White terminated Johnson’s contract.

“This is his third time,” White said of Johnson’s failure to make weight for the third time in his octagon career. “Three strikes and you’re gone.”

Johnson (10-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC), of course, missed weight for his co-feature fight with Vitor Belfort (21-9 MMA, 10-5 UFC). The UFC president said Johnson came within a pound-and-a-half of the 186-pound limit allowed for non-title middleweight fights but was forced by a doctor to rehydrate because the former welterweight contender “couldn’t make it.”

“That was one of the most unprofessional things I’ve ever seen,” White said. “The guy was at 170 pounds. He moved up to 185 pounds so this wouldn’t happen anymore, and this is the worst weightcutting disaster he’s ever had. He almost ruined the co-main event here in Brazil. I don’t know what else to say about that one. I’m not happy about it.”

According to F4WOnline.com, Vince McMahon reportedly pulled WWE Champion CM Punk from escorting Chael Sonnen to the Octagon at UFC’s January 28th show on FOX from Chicago. Apparently Punk was also told that he shouldn’t even be in attendance at the show.

Punk was told at Monday’s RAW and one source close to the situation described it as Vince just being in one of his moods. Sonnen reportedly got it cleared with UFC and Punk had it cleared with WWE but when it became a news story, WWE changed their minds.

Instead, Arantes presses in and knees him to the body. Carvalho pushes forward but eats a big right hand. Flying knee from Carvalho misses, and the round ends.
