Top level Japanese wrestling superstar, KENTA, will be missing approximately up to 6 months or more of in-ring action, after an examination revealed that he will need surgery on his left knee, due to a rupture of the cruciate ligament.

KENTA, who performs for Pro Wrestling NOAH and is also well known for his appearances with Ring of Honor Wrestling, has already been removed from the scheduled shows for the remainder of the year and no official return date has been set in 2012.

This comes as a huge blow to Pro Wrestling NOAH as KENTA is one of their most popular stars in the company.

Latest Word on the Future of the ECW Arena

0

Credit – PWInsider

English: Sabu's and Tod Gordon's Hardcore Hall...

As we previously reported, Roger Artigiani will be departing as leaseholder of the former ECW Arena today. He will remain with the building to oversee the CZW and EVOLVE double header on January 22nd, 2012, but after that Joanna Pang will take over the management.

CZW’s DJ Hyde is still planning to meet with Pang to discuss having events there beyond that, but nothing has been confirmed. The aforementioned events are scheduled to be the last ones as of now. The plan is to remodel the building once the events are done.

Some readers asked about the Hardcore Hall of Fame banners that hang over the Arena. According to Artigiani, they will be removed but will remain in his possession. He says that the banners and other artifacts will be maintained and not discarded.

Tickets for the EVOLVE event are already on sale at dgusa.tv. The following are scheduled for that event: DGUSA Champion Johnny Gargano, Chuck Taylor, Ricochet, Sami Callihan, Bobby Fish, Uhaa Nation and more. CZW’s event is also on sale at CZWrestling.com. No matches have been announced yet.

There are also plans for a bus trip from NYC to the building for the final events.

Chris Hero Gives The Biggest Hint Yet That He’s On His Way to WWE

Professional wrestler Chris Hero at Pro Wrestl...

Former Ring of Honor Tag Team Champion, Chris Hero, who is currently working on the independent scene for various companies such as Pro Wrestling Guerilla, despite being close to signing a WWE developmental deal, seemed to indicate at last night’s PWG event in Reseda, California, that the WWE deal may be closer than expected.

Following a loss to Willie Mack at PWG’s Fear event, Hero got on the mic and thanked the fans for coming out tonight and said that he had a special announcement noting that although he considers Pro Wrestling Guerilla home, this may be the last time that the fans in attendance may see him for a while inside a PWG ring and he hoped everyone enjoyed the ride thus far.

Hero has been expected for quite sometime to join up with Antonio Cesaro, better known as Claudio Castagnoli and Hero’s tag team partner in Ring of Honor, under the name of Kings of Wrestling, as WWE look to bolster their developmental talent, as well as their tag-team division.

Latest Update on Chris Hero Signing With WWE; Did He Flunk His Physical?

1

Regarding Chris Hero being signed by WWE, officials wanted to sign him a few

Chris Hero

months back when they signed his partner Claudio Castagnoli to FCW. Hero was going through the physical screening process.

It’s believed that either WWE found something they wanted to take their time on double checking to make sure he’s fit to sign, or they stalled in contract negotiations.

Hero hasn’t gone back to work for NOAH or ROH yet so it’s still possible he will pop up in FCW soon.

Is the ECW Arena nearing an end to running wrestling events?

0

Credit – PWInsider.com

For some time today, it appeared that the fabled former ECW Arena had hosted its last pro wrestling eventas the building’s general manager Roger Artigiani contacted promoters who had equipment housed in the facility and told them they had 48 hours to remove their items from the property.

Several weeks ago The Philadelphia Daily News featured an article about issues between Artigiani, and another potential leaseholder, Joanna Pang, that wanted to expand and make the venue a concert hall while potentially eliminating pro wrestlingevents. As it turns out, a deal was made, with Artigiani agreeing to sell off his side of the business to Pang.

Initially, it appeared that was going to be it for wrestling events in the venue, but a scheduled January double header featuring CZW and EVOLVE will still go on as scheduled. CZW owner DJ Hyde will be meeting with Pang going forward regarding use of the venue, although wrestling schoolsoperated by CHIKARA and CZW will be moving from the property. CZW still expects to run the venue as they have run more shows there than any other company, but the future of additional groups running the legendary venue is still up in the air.

The venue debuted as a wrestling arena for ECW when founder Tod Gordon ran there in 1993. It quickly became one of the more famous wrestling venues in the world.

We will have more information as it comes in.

Report: Ring of Honor to Launch a Women’s Division

0

According to Diva-Dirt.com, Ring of Honor may be looking to start a Women’s

Del Rey as the Shimmer Champion in October 2007.

Division.  This report comes after former ROH star Sara Del Rey mentioned the possibility on last night’s edition of the DD360 podcast.  The following excerpt is from Diva-Dirt:

The first ever SHIMMER Champion also reveals the exciting news that ROH may be launching a women’s division and have expressed interest in bringing her back.

The previous ROH on HDNet series featured the occasional women’s match, but a full-fledged women’s division never came to fruition.

Sara says: “Right now, they’re really starting from scratch again just re-establishing the brand and the product with Sinclair. I’ve talked to them recently and they have hopes to start the women’s division up, hopefully next year sometime, and they definitely want to include me.”

Urban Wrestling Federation Champion Stripped of Title & Fired After Disagreement Over How to Dress in Ring

0

Credit – PWInsider

As previously reported, Rasche Brown is no longer a part of the Urban Wrestling Federation and has been stripped of the UWF Title, which he won at their last PPV Street King. Rasche broke the news on his Facebook Page, saying, “No longer in any way shape or form affiliated with UWF or Urban Wrestling Federation, so if you supported because of me, thank you… You can stop now…”

According to sources, UWF ended negotiations as opposed to agreeing to several requests that Brown wanted in exchange for returning when his contract expired after the first three PPV’s. One of the points, which is said to be the breaking point, was Brown’s ring outfit which he wanted to dress as he wanted. UWF has been looking for wrestlers to take a “Grand Theft Auto” style of dress as opposed to traditional wrestling gear. This was said to be the final straw for the promotion, who had already agreed to several demands, and they ended negotiations. Brown touched upon the issue in a separate Facebook post, saying, “..There are basic fundamentals in pro wrestling that should not change and I’m not a storm trooper trying to look like the rest of the roster and I don’t need some white man who never spent a day in the ghetto trying to tell me how “WE” act and what “WE” wear… “

There have been complaints from other wrestlers about the promotion, including Rickey Reyes who left the promotion as well. Talent was upset that the hip-hop artists were getting more attention than the wrestlers when the wrestlers were the ones taking the bumps. UWF happened to have shot a vignette on the night of the first taping where Brown handed the belt over to “persons unknown” after his win, which was originally supposed to be an out in case one of the rappers left the promotion. It will end up serving as the reason for Brown not being the champion anymore, which will be explained at the next PPV.

UWF commented on the issue with the following statement:

“With the above prior explanation to why no contract was offered to Rasche Brown for future UWF tapings, this statement is unfounded and was never an issue at all and was never discussed. The Urban Wrestling Federation continues to strive to book the best available talent fitting the UWF mold. The producers of the UWF have booked matches that have garnered universal praise from wrestling fans and top wrestling press reporters for the first three pay per view events “First Blood, Hood Justice, and Street King.” The original list of talent with whom the producers wanted to work was too long to fit in/on the previous three pay per views and now some of those talents, rumored to be from both the west and east coasts, will be moved onto the active roster. The UWF is a place for stars to be made, and we welcome hardworking talent to our roster, known and some currently unknown. We welcome the addition of select talents signed from the S.A.T.’S Ludus Professional Wrestling School located in Brooklyn, NY, where we feel Joel and Will Maximo provide great knowledge and experience to all their students veterans and new students breaking into the business. The Urban Wrestling Federation provides a perfect platform for talent that wish to elevate themselves and game on our nationally televised pay per views, DVD’s, company branded website, many social media platforms, as well as an aggressive national marketing campaigns including ads on urban and rock radio stations in major markets, print ads in magazines and newspapers, as well as ads on national TV cable networks on highly rated programs.”

Resistance Pro debut show results – 11/25/11

0

Credit – PWInsider.com

The show took place at the Excalibur nightclub. As a result, the show was only for 21+. I know this disappointed a lot of people leading up to it, but I can see why the company picked this place, as it was a very unique setup.

The impression I got was that they wanted all the matches to have an underground fight feeling. There were very few seats in use, so it was 90% standing room only. The club had four tiers of areas to watch the show, so we’re all standing, looking down onto the ring. All the music was brand new, created by SSTARIA just for the company. I loved the general theme of all the songs, which was “you’re entering a fight”, although for the most part, they were interchangeable among the wrestlers, and in the cases of some people, like the comedic Colt Cabana, it didn’t seem to fit. And finally, they wanted it to be gritty, so smoke was constantly being pumped in. But overall, an interesting, unique setting.

After an opening video, the ring announcer introduced one of the commentators, Joel Gertner. He did his usual thing, being disgusting and hilarious all at once. They then brought out the four men in the mini tournament to crown the first World Champion: The Shiek (w/ Rinaldo Piven), El Generico, Kevin Steen, and Harry Smith. Piven, Steen, and Smith gave their comments on why they or their men will win the tournament. This lead to the first match:

1. The Shiek defeated El Generico. This was a decent match, which picked up as it went along. Although the ending left a lot to be desired, as the Shiek used a spike for the win.

2. Team Ambition: Kyle O’Reilly and Tony Kozina (w/ The Canadian Destroyer) defeated Hallowicked and Matt Classic. Classic was a last minute replacement for Frightmare, who’s out injured. The Destroyer, as you could guess, is Petey Williams in a mask. This was essentially a handicap match, as Classic spent the whole time doing his usual pre-match stretching, constantly walking away from the corner when Hallowicked was ready for a tag. Solid action from all three who wrestled, but the injury really screwed things over for this match. Hallowicked eventually tapped out to a submission. Afterwards, Team Ambition said they wanted tougher competition.

3. “Lonesome” Jay Bradley defeated Icarus. Squash city, including a killer lariat for the win. Bradley then talked about how he was gone for a year, and got a new nickname (it used to be “Ass Kicker”), and made some comments about women and drinking.

Before the next match, some of the VIPs were introduced. Shane Douglas, who was helping out the show in unspecified aspects, Tara, a last minute addition, longtime Chicago broadcaster Chet Coppick (who I believe arrived in a Macho Man cape), and finally, NBC 5 Sportscaster, and yes, former Raw General Manager, Mike Adamle, who was booed out of the building.

D’arcy Dixon, a fitness model, came out as the new manager for the Briscoes. She gave a little speech, and the crowd didn’t care. But, they went crazy when the Briscoes came out. Jay made some rather lewd comments about Dixon too. Gran Akuma then came out, followed a full minute later by Teddy Hart.

4. The Briscoe Brothers defeated Gran Akuma and Teddy Hart. As far as pure action, this was the match of the night. Lots of brawling inside the ring, and in the small area outside. Several huge high spots as well, including superplexes and moonsaults from the second level. Briscoes with the Doomsday Device for the win. Teddy seemed to really be favoring his knee, and puked up something in the ring as the match ended.

5. Melanie Cruise won a “gauntlet” match to become the first Women’s Champion. This was aweird match. First the rules, and I’m not sure if I have them down properly. Anyone can enter the ring at anytime. Elimination occurs via pinfall, or being thrown over the top rope. A gong would be hit when someone was entering. Initial participants include Cheerleader Melissa, Miss December, Sassy Stephie, Serenity, Simply Luscious, Taylor Made, and a guy wearing a cheerleader outfit. No idea who it was, nor do I care. Melissa was the first one in, and this match was pretty much all about her. The guy eliminated most of the women, although Melissa would kill him with a lariat, and eventually eliminate him. It appears that Melissa would win, pinning Serenity, until Melanie entered in her street clothes. One spinebuster later, she wins the match and the title. She says everyone is the drizzling s*its, and says while Melissa is the Future Legend, she’s THE Legend.

6. The Canadian Destroyer defeated Colt Cabana and the Necro Butcher. This was to determine the “King of the Nightlife”, for whatever that’s worth. This had a lot of comedy in it, thanks to Colt. A lot of it consisted of Colt calling the Destroyer Petey, with phrases such as “Come on, we know it’s you Petey” and “*cough*PETE!” Moving past the comedy, good action from all involved. Necro Butcher was powerbombed on a guardrail, and following interference from Team Ambition, the Destroyer won with his namesake finisher. Petey wasn’t happy with his team getting involved, and turned on him, although Cabana then took out Petey.

7. Kevin Steen vs. Harry Smith ended in a time-limit draw. Another solid match, although Steen spent a lot of time yelling at various people, including Tara. Smith locks on the sharpshooter, but the match ends as a time limit draw. They’re given five more minutes, and the same thing happens again, with Steen surviving the sharpshooter. They were going to then restart the match with no timelimit, but Steen refused, saying he’s injured, and that Corgan said this promotion is all about safety. Therefore, the Championship match at the next show will be a three way: Kevin Steen vs. Harry Smith vs. The Shiek.

The Shiek and Piven come out, saying Shiek should be awarded the title right now, and Shiek and Steen start beating up Smith, until he fights them off.

The afterparty began immediately in the room next door. Everyone was signing for free, although they did have merchandise available for purchase. A CD of all the show’s music was being handed out, and SSTARIA was there to autograph it. Posters of the show were being sold, including some autographed by the entire roster for $50. Raven, who’s officially the promotion’s agent, was also out signing.

Billy Corgan was not at the show, as the Smashing Pumpkins is currently on tour, but he later noted on Twitter that he watched the whole show via Skype.

Overall, I liked the atmosphere, and the general theme of the evening, but I felt many of the matches could have been done better. I get that Billy wants to tell stories, and some of these are only the first chapter, but some of these actions had me scratching my head. It’s a decent start, and I’m looking forward to what they have in the future.

A full gallery of the show will be available soon on DirtyDirtySheets.com
